						Through its innovative GreenSmart program, the Housing Industry Association and its Accredited GreenSmart Professionals develop, demonstrate and promote technologies, design principles and industry practices intended to significantly improve the quality of Australia's built environment. The main GreenSmart goals are: • to improve the energy and water efficiency of the houses, • to enable homeowners to recycle more and waste less, • to reduce the waste from the building process, and • to prevent pollution from the site through improved site management during construction. The benefits of a GreenSmart home include lower energy and water bills, a warmer house in winter, a cooler house in summer – and, as more than half the waste from the building process has been recycled, the environment has benefited even before occupation.
